Smart-RF Project: Measurement and Digital Predistortion of Power Amplifiers Using Volterra Series
In this paper we present power amplifier (PA) modeling and digital predistortion (DP) methods with memory effects using baseband Volterra series representation. A reduction of complex Volterra model coefficients was possible using their symmetry properties. Our simulation and measurement results show a good linearization performance applying very simple Volterra model structures. A further advantage of our approach is a simple offline DP model identification, without need to analytically or iteratively calculate a PA model inverse. The measurement results are presented using different digital modulated signals. DP with and without memory are compared. Finally we report an improvement of PA efficiency regarding a defined output signal spectral mask.
