Abstract
Stability has become an important performance measure for wireless communication systems. In this paper general conditions for stability in broadcast channels are derived. It is shown that for any mean arrival rate inside the ergodic capacity region the system is stable when the applied scheduling policy complies with the conditions presented in the main results. In this case the policy is so-called throughput-optimal and the results in the paper provide a convenient way either to design or to verify the throughput-optimal policies. The applicability of the results is shown along with some examples.
