Abstract
OQAM/IOTA is a promising multicarrier transmission, which in contrast to cyclic prefix based OFDM (cp-OFDM) operates at optimal spectral efficiency with ability of channel adapted pulse shaping. In this paper we assess the performance gain of this type of multicarrier transmission in the context of UMTS HSDPA. We demonstrate the possibility of using more robust coding with respect to cp-OFDM at the same information rate. Moreover we apply the theory of optimal pulse scaling in time-varying environments. Finally, we quantify the increase in complexity.
